Recipe: How to prepare Soya Milk

Soya milk is a healthy alternative to cow milk. Soybeans contain proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, and high phytonutrients. Soybeans help reduce blood cholesterol; thereby, promoting cardiovascular health. It is also good for those who are lactose intolerant.

Ingredients for 4 people:

1 cup and 3 tablespoons dried soybeans

5-1/3 cups water

5/8 pandan leaf (optional)

5/8 slice fresh ginger root (optional)

3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

1/3 cup white sugar


Step 1

Soak beans in water overnight. Drain, rinse and discard water. Add soaked beans with 2 quarts fresh water in a blender and blend until smooth.

Step 2

Sieve into a pot with cheesecloth, or fine sieve. Include and add pandan leaf or ginger, and sugar to taste. Boil soya milk for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent skin from forming. Remove pandan leaf or ginger, then flavor with vanilla. Add and stir sugar to taste. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate.

There you go! Have your chill and healthy soya milk.
