Mango (Mangiferaindica) is a drupe or stone fruit, which means that it has a large seed in the middle. Mango is native to India, Southeast Asia, and common in Africa it has been cultivated for over 4,000 years.

There are over a hundred types of mango, each with a unique taste, shape, size, and color. This fruit is not only delicious but also has impressive nutritional values. In fact, studies have shown that mango has nutrients that are beneficial to human health, such as to improve immunity, aid digestion, better eyesight, as well as a lower risk of certain cancers.

Mango is weak in calories yet strong in nutrients — especially vitamin C, which help immunity, iron absorption, and growth.

Mango has different types of polyphenols, including mangiferin, which is particularly powerful. Polyphenols function as antioxidants in our body (reduces acidity in the body system).

Mango is a great source of folate, several B vitamins, as well as vitamins A, C, K, and E — all of which aid boost immunity.

Mango contains magnesium, potassium, and the antioxidant mangiferin, which all support our healthy heart function, it helps our heartbeat run smoothly.

Mango also has digestive enzymes, water, dietary fiber, and other compounds that help different aspects of digestive health.

Mango contains lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin A — which support eye health. Lutein and zeaxanthin protect the skin from the sunburns, while a lack of vitamin A can create vision problems.

Mango also has vitamin C, which provides your skin with its elasticity and prevents sagging and wrinkling. It also provides vitamin A, which makes our hair healthy.

Mango polyphenols fight oxidative stress, which is linked to different health issues like, colon, lung, prostate, breast, and bone cancers.

Keep in mind that mango is sweet and contains more sugar than many other fruits. Moderation is key. It’s best to limit mango to not more than three per day at most four. Mango is rich in nutrients and has been associated with many health benefits as mentioned above. Like the popular Maxim “one apple a day keeps you away from the doctor” here I will say “two mangoes a day improves your health”
